Daz was born in Barrancas, La Guajira, and was included to Colombia's 22-man team for the 2015 Copa Americana de Pueblos Indgenas owing to his Wayuu ancestry. Following excelling throughout the competition, he joined Atlético Junior in 2016 after a trial period, and was promptly sent to feeder team Barranquilla FC.
DAZ was promoted to Junior's main squad on June 6, 2017, after making his first team debut in the year's Copa Colombia. He made his Categora Primera A debut on 27 August, replacing Matas Mier in a 3–2 loss at Once Caldas, and scored his first goal on 20 September in a 3–1 Copa Sudamericana home triumph over Cerro Porteo.
DAZ became a regular starter during the 2018 season, and scored his first goal in the top flight on 4 February of that year, scoring the game's lone goal in a home win over Atlético Bucaramanga. He also scored braces against Once Caldas, Atlético Huila, and Rionegro Guilas, finishing the season with 16 goals in total.
On July 10, 2019, Daz signed a five-year contract with FC Porto in Portugal, with the club purchasing 80 percent of his economic rights for €7 million. FC Zenit Saint Petersburg had also expressed interest in signing him, but he was persuaded by compatriots and former Porto players Radamel Falcao and James Rodrguez, as well as his national coach, Carlos Queiroz, a Portuguese.
Daz made his debut as a 55th-minute replacement for Romário Baró in a 1–0 win against FC Krasnodar in the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round first leg on 7 August, and six days later he scored his first goal, although in a 3–2 loss at the Estádio do Drago. In December 23, 2020, Daz came on as a 77th-minute replacement for Mehdi Taremi in the 2020 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira against O Clássico rivals S.L. Benfica, and scored to seal a 2–0 win. The following 10 February, he was sent off in a 1–1 draw against S.C. Braga in a cup semi-final for fracturing David Carmo's leg; compatriot Mateus Uribe was also removed.
After representing Colombia at the under-20 level in the 2017 South American U-20 Championship, Daz was called up to the national team on August 27, 2018, for friendlies against Venezuela and Argentina. In September 11, he made his entire international debut, coming on in place of Juan Cuadrado in a 0–0 tie at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Daz was named to Colombia's team for the Copa América in 2021. On June 23, he scored the opening goal in a 2–1 first-round defeat to hosts Brazil with a spectacular volley. DAZ scored Colombia's sole goal in their semi-final encounter against Argentina on July 6, which resulted in an Argentine victory following a penalty shoot-out.
Three days later, he scored twice, including the game-winning goal, in a 3–2 triumph over Peru in the tournament's third-place match. He finished the tournament as the tournament's equal best goal scorer, along with Lionel Messi.
