Jeon Jung-kook was born in Busan, South Korea, on September 1, 1997. His parents and an older brother make up his family. He went at Busan's Baekyang Elementary and Middle Schools. He transferred to Singu Middle School in Seoul after becoming a trainee.
When Jungkook was younger, he wanted to be a badminton player, but after witnessing G-Dragon perform "Heartbreaker" on television, he changed his mind and decided to become a singer. After seeing RM, currently his fellow band member and leader in BTS, perform, he decided to become a trainee under Big Hit Entertainment.
During the summer of 2012, he travelled to Los Angeles to acquire dance instruction at Movement Lifestyle in preparation for his debut. In 2017, he graduated from Seoul's School of Performing Arts, an arts high school. He opted not to take the CSATs, Korea's national university entrance exam, in November 2016. He will be a sophomore at Global Cyber University in 2020, studying in Broadcasting and Entertainment.
Jungkook made his debut as a member of BTS on June 12, 2013, with the release of the track 2 Cool 4 Skool. He has sung three solo songs while a member of BTS; the first, pop track "Begin" from the 2016 album Wings, described his narrative of travelling to Seoul at an early age to become an idol and shows appreciation to his fellow members for taking care of him during that time.
The second, a future bass song titled "Euphoria," was released on April 5, 2018, along with a nine-minute short video as the opening to the third instalment of BTS' "Love Yourself" series.
The full studio version was included in their compilation album Love Yourself: Answer, which was published on August 24, 2018. DJ Swivel produced "Euphoria," which peaked at number five on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. The third solo off the band's 2020 studio album Map of the Soul: 7 is a strobing R&B song about missing out on adolescent experiences due to his work.
"My Time" peaked at number 84 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. "Euphoria" and "My Time" are the first and second longest charting solo tracks by K-pop singers on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart, having spent 72 and 68 weeks on the chart, respectively. Jungkook is listed as the primary producer on two of BTS's songs: "Love is Not Over" and "Magic Shop.
Jungkook took part in the "One Dream, One Korea" campaign in September 2015, collaborating on a song with numerous Korean singers in memory of the Korean War. The song was published on September 24 and debuted on October 15 at the One K Concert in Seoul.
Jungkook was cast in the pilot episode of Flower Crew in 2016. He also participated on Celebrity Bromance and competed on King of Mask Singer as "Fencing Man" in episode 72. Jungkook and original singer Charlie Puth performed "We Don't Talk Anymore" in a special collaboration stage during the MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards on November 6, 2018. He had already covered the song twice, once alone and once with fellow BTS member Jimin.
As part of BTS' yearlong debut celebrations, Jungkook released the song "Still With You" for free on outlets such as SoundCloud on June 4, 2020. The song was characterised by Billboard as having "tinkling synths, gently strummed guitars, and brushed drumming." Jungkook created the piece entirely on his own.
